WesBanco, Inc., is a bank holding company headquartered in Wheeling, West Virginia. It has 235 branches in West Virginia, Ohio, Western Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Maryland, and Southern Indiana. WesBanco is the second-largest bank headquartered in West Virginia, after United Bank.
"Horrible experience" says a WesBanco former employee on "Indeed" on November 19, 2019:
"Worked there for six months; a lot of drama. They don’t pay enough for the amount of work and drama they want you to deal with. If they don’t like you they will fire you and hire a former employee they do like. Snakes and sneaky company, don’t ever work for Wesbanco. Unless you just need to get experience."
Former Employee - Manager says"The one or two women at the top are fake and will throw anyone under the bus. Do not work here."
Current Employee - Teller says"They do not respect their seasoned employees. I have been working with them for 5 years, step in for the supervisor when she's out of office and perform the responsibilities of that job. I also meet my goals. They have hired three new hires and all three haven't had any banking experience and they all three made more than I and my fellow co-workers who have also been with the bank a while. And I'm not talking a few cents more, I'm talking dollar amounts more. They'll ask you to do other jobs and not fairly pay you for them and then give newbies more than you. And it's a very consistent situation. It's no wonder there is so much turn over."

Current Employee - Banking Center Manager says"It is a step back in time, training is unorganized, HR has not progressed and EVPs give poor direction and communication. HR still separates out vacation and paid time off and you have to let them know what you need paid time off for, there is no privacy if you need personal time. They offer a FSA (can not roll over unused funds and have to provide a receipt for everything and fill out a paper form) instead of a HSA that you can roll over year after year. The bank still uses paper instead of technology as if they are still in 1990, even the IT department requires a signed form for any change requests. With the recent hire of the new EVP of retail, we have seen goals increase and have more sales pressure with little in return. She acts nice but has a reputation for blowing up and losing her temper. I have never experienced this myself but this is the low key talk among the branches and managers based on discussions overheard by people who work directly for her. Another EVP has been heard telling department managers that Wesbanco is getting ready to lay-off 150 employees, and showed little regard for the effect this could have on those employees by gossiping about it to others. Wesbanco pays dramatically less then other financial institutions and has a poor if any bonus structure. The bank appears to have a lack of consistency and has vertically no diversity."

Personal Banker (Current Employee) says"The employee moral is so low here. This is a thankless Job. Upper Management are constantly hounding you to make sales (we've actually lost Customers over it) and if you refuse to bother your Customers, by calling them to try and sell them stuff, you get in trouble. The benefits are nice. Paid Vacation, paid sick time, paid days off, as well as very good Insurance. The pay, however, is terrible. They will tell you that a certain wage is the base pay for your position but I've, recently, learned that I'm the lowest paid Personal Banker in my Market and I was lied to about their base pay. This is the reason they lose a lot of employees. It's the reason I'm looking for other employment. I wouldn't recommend this Job unless you're willing to work for chicken feed. We are the lowest paying Bank in my area. Also, I've been working 6 days a week, for a month now, and there's no end in sight because they drag their feet about hiring anyone. They just expect you to be ok with being exhausted, from working so much, and being broke from not getting paid enough. I can't do it anymore. I hate it. If you are desperate and need a Job then I would say apply here, because they are desperate and need employees because everyone is quitting. I know of 4 other employees, with the Bank, who are currently seeking employment elsewhere. We have loan, and checking account, campaigns every quarter where we have to get a certain number in loans, and open a certain number of checking accounts, and all of this is aside from the sales goals each branch has for the year. They are also constantly tellingGood Insurance, Paid Holidays, Paid Vacation, Paid Time Off.Pay, Work Environment, Extreme Sales Pressure, Extremely High Branch Sales Goals, Mandatory Sales Calls"
Teller (Former Employee) says"The coworkers at WesBanco were amazing. Anyone I came into contact with (who was my equal) was very helpful with any questions I might have had. The training facilities are great and really makes you feel like you picked a great company to work for. Then you start working in your branch, realize that you are so understaffed that customers complain to you about your wait time. Most of the managers I came into contact with couldn't run a simple deposit or even make it to work to open the branch on time. All in all, WesBanco is a company who allows the members of upper management pick and choose who will do what job, disregarding policies and ignoring the workers who are reliable and knowledgeable. Also, there is no policy against friendships between coworkers or even employees and supervisors, but it will be addressed if it happens.other tellers are very niceupper management"
Bank Teller/Customer Service Representative (Former Employee) says"Wesbanco bought Farmers Bank and Capital Trust/United and this branch went from a community minded hometown bank to a corporate monster. Customers and employees were degraded and thought of only as a means to make money. The only thing they encouraged or supported was pushing more products on customers as a way of making more money. Less leeway was given to reverse charges, even just one time, to help correct a customer mistake. Employees became a number instead of individuals and loyalty was hurt. I would not recommend working here."
Banking Center Manager (Current Employee) says"Wesbanco started as a great company but they played favorites and weren’t very open to the idea of hearing what others had to say. People moved up who had poor language skills and no real knowledge of banking. Had only worked for one location or financial institution for their whole career. When challenged with the “why” response was “just because” reasoning. Lots of turn over due to lack of proper training."
Senior Banker (Former Employee) says"This is a very small bank with small thinking. Staff was very unprofessional and close mined. Not open to other cultures. Tellers are unfriendly even to the most long standing customers. Not FDIC compliant and I was uncomfortable with some of the bank's practices."

TELLER (Current Employee) says"I've been with the bank 5 years and with that being said its changed a lot with all the conversions. The job itself isn't bad. BUT they don't fairly compensate. I'm our locations back up supervisor and recently we were short staffed so of course I'd cover for people and work over. Then they hire in two new hires with zero experience. Both make more than what I do and its dollars more not cents. They dont like when you discuss pay and actually say in the interview that you can be terminated for doing so. But its not right. And I'm the type of person that if you have the degree or job experience that making more than someone who has been there for a while is acceptable. But not someone who has zero experience. They should want to pay their loyal employees more for the work they do instead of hiring new people and paying them more just so I can clean up their mistakes. ALSO, some BCMs are absolutely horrendous to work for. I'll not name names but there is one who belittles you every chance she gets and acts like shes too important to help anyone. Shes the VPs Favorite and whatever she wants she gets. UNFAIR EMPLOYER. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. Go to PNC, OVB or City National Bank.InsuranceUnfair pay, want you to work but not give you overtime, unrealistic goals"

Training is poor. Management is filled with a bunch of condescending awful people. And tellers are treated like bottom of the barrel trash. For the love of god. Spare yourself misery, and never work here. -1,000,000/ 10 would not recommend."

The co workers I worked with were so much fun, we had fun but got our work done also. the hardest part of the job was trying to satisfy management, they were never happy, they have a huge turn around"

MORTGAGE LOAN PROCESSOR (Former Employee) says"If you are a female seeking employment with the opportunity for advancement then WesBanco is not the place for you. WesBanco only promotes men within the company and does not give woman an opportunity. They have their "favorites" and the rules are not the same for each person. It all depends on who you are and your gender."
Teller (Former Employee) says"I began working here November 2018 as a float teller. I floated to 3 different locations and ended up staying at the last place I floated to because it was closer to home. Since I took that full time position there, they deducted my pay by $1, by doing the math, I was losing more than $100 on every paycheck. Before taking the position my HR told me I could keep my current pay by staying at this location. Keep in mind this location had me and another float when I was called and told to go there because they needed help. Which is the reason I had to float there because all the other 5 tellers (who had been there for years) all walked out. This is a very poor business, only caring about the money making process, not trying to keep employees to keep customers. Customers noticed everyone had left and threatened to switch banks. I agreed and asked no questions. I would never bank here with all the fees they put on each customer. Glad I quit!!! PS. figure I should mention this was all after the merger from first century to WesBancosome benefitspoor pay, poor management, poor work place"
